About Tailwind Physical Theatre

Tailwind Physical Theatre internationally known movement-led company exploring grief, queerness, and silenced experiences. Founded by Ru Lawrence, Tailwind blends physical storytelling, dance, and documentary elements to amplify voices often unheard. Notable works include I Wish You Called (queer isolation in rural spaces), Dear Brain (the brain’s response to trauma), and Seperatio (loss and transformation). Tailwind also engages in global teaching, with Ru recently leading an intensive in Istanbul. Committed to raw, visceral storytelling, Tailwind creates work that exists where words fall short—where grief, identity, and resilience take shape through movement and deeply human connection.

Join us as we push the boundaries of physical theatre, creating performances that are profound, transformative, and socially impactful.

UGLY DUCK

Tailwind Physical Theatre is Partnered with a number of arts organisations. Ugly Duck is a London based arts organisation that supports under-represented voices and emerging artists. Established in August 2012, their programme enables makers, community groups, professionals and the public to come together around unique cultural experiences andcurated events.

They have converted a beautiful empty Victorian warehouse in SE1 into a busy creative spacewhich became, and still is, the home of countless rising artists.

Metal's work is brought to life by creatives and producers who understand the complexities of each place. Many of us have community roles and artistic practices outside of our day jobs (spoken word, youth work, painting, writing and more). Celebrating difference is important to Metal and global majority, disabled, LGBTQIA+ and working-class people are represented in our leadership.
